On Friday night I ended up at Amoeba , as I often do on the weekends, and I overheard a customer asking an employee, “If this CD sucks ass, can I exchange it?” I didn’t even want to take the effort to walk over to the young man and explain how the music industry works in this day and age. I honestly don’t mind paying for a CD after I verify that it isn’t a CD full of shit. That’s why I support labels that do not submit their music to the RIAA. Go buy this CD.

Recently I stumbled upon
a list
of the top ten products to avoid buying. I was highly interested in this article because I always feel a little guilty with all the energy I use by never turning off my computer. I have a few areas to improve upon, first being conventional household cleaners. I know they are bad for me and I never use gloves when cleaning so inevitably I end up with my hands red from whatever chemicals I have used. The only other area of improvement is that I do have paper towels, but to be honest my roommate bought those so her bad, but I’m using them so I’m equally as guilty but I have had the same roll for over two weeks. How are you living?

How much longer I wonder can I sit here on my comfortable couch and watch depressing videos such as this one on Channel 4 and do nothing about it. I know all the avenues that are available for me to take to get involved, yet I do nothing. I also live in an area of the country that is known for the progressive steps to move forward to save the environment yet I do nothing. Maybe tomorrow.

I often struggle to keep the genre of my iTunes to a minimum. The reason for doing this is simple. As my library pushes four thousand tracks I couldn’t imagine if I classified, for example, Rock and Classic Rock in two separate categories. The iPod UI also sucks and I need to keep it simple. So for today’s offering I give you Hip-Hop.

I recently picked up the new RJD2, The Third Hand, and to be honest with you I really don’t think I like it. The sign of a true artist is one that is always changing and improving his style but this new album isn’t as original or creative as his past works. It just has too much of a pop vibe for me. Del tha Funkee Homosapien was put on notice a while back and although I still respect him for 3030, I don’t buy his music any more. So I’ll give you this one RJ but your next album I’m going to sample before I buy.

Today was the 29th Annual St. Stupid’s Day Parade. Every year on April 1st San Francisco celebrates stupidity. A parade that starts at either the big pointy building or somewhere on the Embarcadero and ends up somewhere in North Beach, it’s really fun. Many people dress up as complete idiots and its rather stupid. Not to be missed if you’re not afraid of freaks. The most current episode of Weird America did a great show on it. Also check out the cool pictures taken by Laughing Squid.

I didn’t save it and within a few days it was erased with new podcast. I again saw it today and I understand it now and realize more than ever how powerful this short film is.

I often turn to music for answers on how to best stop this out of control war machine and have found Michael Franti has one of the best lines in a current song about war. He says, “We can bomb the world to pieces, but we can’t bomb the world into peace.” So simple yet true. We’ve heard it many times before that we won the war but lost the peace.

In the late nineties I was working in a computer manufacturing facility and I remember the day that we were told in a short amount of time all the machines in all four buildings would be on the internet. I thought this was the greatest thing ever. I watched the bubble inflate and burst and it was an amazing thing. Sometimes people ask me to explain what Web 2.0 looks like and all I can think of is flickr and tags. But now, thanks to the power of StumbleUpon, I was given this video. Check it out. And if you’ve got a better explanation please let me know.

I Don’t Have The ANSWER

Recently we had another peace rally here in the city and probably in your town too. Although the turn out was O.K. I’m no longer one of them. Somewhere along the way I came to the realization that the peace rally can never work for a number of reasons.

The first being the current movement is organized by A.N.S.W.E.R., an organization that is closely aligned with Socialism. They use their stage to promote their agenda and the audience goes quiet.

The second problem is most call it an “Anti-War” rally and I refuse to be part of anything that is “negative.” If they were to simply to change the name to a “Pro-Peace” we may be on the right track.

The third and final problem is after the “Party” everyone goes home. Nobody really wants to get their hands dirty and get involved in the issues. That might include something drastic like missing an episode of American Idol.

Plane That Draws A White Line

For a little while now I’ve been watching Anji Bee. To be honest with you I’ve tried to listen to her Chill Cast but I don’t really care for most of the music she plays, not to say that it’s not good, it’s just not my favorite genre. From her first vidcast that I watched I really enjoyed what I saw. I can’t exactly put my finger on what it is that intrigues me about the show, but I like it. There are a few things she always talks about in her show and one of them being IODA: The independent online distribution alliance. I thought I would give it a try.

The first thing I noticed was when I signed up on Friday night was a bot didn’t automatically give me a password. I actually had to wait until Monday morning until, I assume, an actual human approved my request. At first I was a little put off at having to wait more than the regular two and a half seconds for the gmail conformation but after thinking that there was an actual human at the other end to review my request it made think that this little company actually gives a darn about me.

I’m not really sure where I want to go with this, I really just wanted to see if I could get here.

The more time I spend in San Francisco the more I’m fascinated by the street art that I stumble upon. Some would say that the art I see is nothing more than graffiti and diminishes the beauty of the city. I would argue the corporate advertisements that are on buses and trains to back of newspaper stands and even in bathrooms may do more to diminish the city and society in general. I would think if there were more of an acceptance of art it would only make our society stronger and more tolerant of what is foreign to us. We can all agree that some tags are unacceptable in any society but embracing the true street artist would do a great deal more than could ever be imagined. Art of the street, from the people can be very powerful.

I know recently a great piece on market was buffed and within 12hrs some horrible tags went up. Now the parking lot looks like shit. They deserve the space to look like shit if they aren’t going to respect great art.

A while back I was flipping through pages in Yelp and I started reading about Pres a Vi. I was interested because I have yet to spend any time in the new Letterman Digital Arts Center. I was looking for an excuse to go out to the Presidio but after reading the horrible reviews I was in no hurry. Some time later after I had all but forgotten what I had read on the net I ended up at the Palace of Fine Arts and when I realized where I was I decided to go find this Walnut Creek restaurant here in the city.

With my expectations predetermined from what I had found in Yelp I ordered the Burger. It was a Kobe burger and was great. The bun wasn’t too big and this thing was juicy. I had a few beers and some cherry thing that was just delightful.

I read in the Sunday Chronicle a good review and I expect interest in this great place to grow over the coming months, and with a huge outdoor dining area I expect the city to love the location. I suggest you go check it out before they get overwhelmed.

A few days ago I stumbled upon an awesome page called Breathing Earth. The page itself does a lot to help you think about your global footprint.
If you’re in the United States like me, it really helps you think about what it is that you can do to decrease the amount of Co2 we put into the air. Every time a country turns red it represents that country emitting 1000 Tons of carbon dioxide. I once read that forty percent of the electricity usage in our homes is from items on standby, like your TV that is never really off. After reading that, and since I never really watch TV, I now turn off the power strip on the side of my TV when I’m not actively watching it. Although I never turn off my computer or neon fish I am, I feel, on the road to recovery. I also read Julia Butterfly’s
book,”One Makes the Difference” although I can’t give you any specific lifestyle changes I know that she has changed my life. I highly suggest you invest some time and lean who this woman is.

A Better Tuner

I’m currently subscribed to a little over 200 podcasts now and have come to the conclusion that I need to invest in a real aggregator. I currently use Juice for seven feeds and iTunes for the rest.

I need a client that can truly manage subscriptions. Some feeds update more than once a day so I don’t need to keep more than one or two of the most current files and some feeds update at most once ever four to six months so I just assume keep the last year or two. Other shows I want to pick and choose the files and keep possibly forever. Is there such a solution? I’ll pay a fair amount if it does what I need.

As many people who are reading this may already realize TV and Radio is changing fast. I’m currently subscribed to well over a 100 podcast and this has allowed me to, for the most part, turn off my TV and radio. I’d happily switch back on if they would offer me what I want to hear.

Please tell me what SF Bay Area station plays Immortal Technique? When I look at Last.fm it looks like there is a group of people that would be interested in this type of hip-hop. I see over a million plays Scrobbled . Unfortunately the system knows “Ignorance is venomous, and it murders the soul” so they won’t give the people music with a message like Immortal Technique.

I was working in the computer industry for a few years until my job was sent to China. This I can adjust to because the computer industry has only been around for 25 to 30 years. The people working for GM have been loosing jobs for a while now and I’m sure we can adjust because cars have only been around for 100 years.

The Industrial Revolution has brought us so many wonderful things but now some people will argue that we have over populated the earth and the example would be the collapse of the fishing industry. I can’t believe people aren’t really worried about this. Not only do a few people get food from the ocean but the fishing industry has a lot of people working in it and as the industry collapses times ahead will get tough.

A few weeks back I was walking up Clarion and couldn’t help but notice this installation. The first thing I thought of was “The War on Drugs” and the increased opium production in Afghanistan.

Then I thought of our schools and the quality of education that Americans can expect. What has “Leave No Child Behind” done for the youth? How has it helped the teachers teach?

I stood in front of this little gravestone and thought about Katrina and all the missed opportunities. This country is failing.

I read somewhere that more than one company has come up with a crazy idea. Start tracking movement of cell phones in cars as a way to monitor traffic flow.

I guess all the video cameras weren’t enough. I wonder what else we can monitor to help be more efficient. Maybe Safeway could use this technology to help me through check out faster.

I really like this burger joint. The three locations consistently have friendly service, great food in a clean environment and I love the Anchor Stem. I have no complaints although I think it’s time for a new favorite. I’m not picky when it comes to burgers they only need have:

A. Happy employees.
B. Clean Tables.
C. Beer on tap.
D. Mayo with the fry’s.
E. Brought to my table.
F. Bonus points if its close to Muni and has Pac-Man. ( I hate the bus.)

I know the universe will unveil this wonderful place to me in the not to distant future.

Walking through the mission a few days ago I snapped a shot of this liquor store surprised by the convinced offered.

This was the first time I’ve found a place that makes it so easy to dispose of money that you’ve yet to earn. My cousin said I must have been living in another world up until that moment because they are around the city.

I think that they should sell hemp and guns too, what the hell…

Over a year ago I couldn’t find anything on my 70 channels so I turned to KQED (PBS) and it was fund raising week. After watching an hour of the best KQED had to offer I sent them a few hundred dollars with no hesitation. And for the next year I would always check KQED to see if they had something worth watching.

Fast forward to today. I now watch no more than 30 minutes of TV a day. Usually David Letterman before I go to sleep.

I do understand why they offer TV in prison now. I’m convinced it’s used as a weapon to control the mind. It is called “Programming.”

I read on Crooks and Liars that, “The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has proposed a system which will in essence make it mandatory for you to have permission before leaving or entering the country, effectively putting everyone on a no-fly list…"

What this tells me is something is going to happen. So I just need to get into the mindset that were all are living in New Orleans in the late summer of 2005. I’ve got a couple months before Katrina hits. It’s going to get ugly, or not, but I’m still going to get a passport tomorrow morning.

Recently, in the last month or so, BART or MUNI has decided that the name plate for the Elevator button is a little to much for the bums to figure out.

The fact that it has worked just fine since the system went operational in late 1972 really puzzles me a little. I can’t believe people are so stupid now that they keep pressing the “Agent Call” located just to the left, you know the one that looks exactly like this one but with one minor difference that I need not get into.

I sit down here on this beautiful fall day and think about the world around me and what to do with it, why not start a blog.

In some way I feel like I should state my goals and direction. Easy enough, where ever the wind may be blowing that day, and my goals are simple, to reduce my global footprint.
